Are you tired of being limited by your own body?
Joint stiffness and pain. Limited range of motion. Low energy. Feeling weak.
We don’t have to feel those things as we age. Through proper strength training and mobility programming focused on you as an individual, we can help you feel younger, move faster and get stronger
Hi, I’m Scott, the owner and head coach at Self Liberation Strength. Whether you feel inflexible, weak, or out of shape, I understand your struggles. When I was young, I was not the most athletic. My interest in fitness and movement didn’t start until my mid 20s, when I started my martial arts and kickboxing journey. Now, I’ve been a personal trainer for over a decade and a martial artist for over two decades.
When I started training martial arts and kickboxing, I quickly became aware of my lack of mobility. I wasn’t the strongest either. I stood 6’ 1”, but only weighed 160lbs. My kung fu and kickboxing instructor pushed me to go to the gym for strength training. He also encouraged me to explore kettlebell training, even though he had never touched one himself. This set me on a path over the last 20 years where I’ve explored a plethora of methods, tools and equipment from kettlebells to barbells to Bulgarian bags and maces for strength and conditioning and from Neuro Kinetic Therapy to resistance stretching and Functional Range Conditioning for mobility, all in the search of performing better.
I created Self Liberation Strength to help others learn what I have learned, but not take 20 years doing so. Now in my mid to late 40s, I have more mobility, feel better, and am stronger than I was in my 20s. I know the struggles that we tackle as we age, and I can help you. Together we can Get Mobile, Get Strong, Get Healthy, and Get Free!
Scott's the best! He's a super knowledgeable trainer with a humble, honest approach to fitness. With a rich background in martial arts as well, his discipline, focus, and consistency truly struck me from day one. I first found Scott when I was seeking an FRC-certified trainer to help with some knee problems. He really took the time to sit down with me and figure out an approach that would work. Over the course of 5 months, we progressed from mobility-focused joint work to a more traditional athletic strength training program, meanwhile isolating and addressing the causes for my issues. My pain totally cleared, I (intentionally) gained 10+ lb of mass to support my specific movement needs, and built a wealth of knowledge. Although I had to stop working with him due to moving out of state, I'm now able to continue my programming all on my own with a confidence and clarity I never had before.

“Staying fit and active is so important, both physically and mentally, especially as I’ve entered my 50s. But as a busy professional, with many work and personal demands, figuring out the right workout plan and sticking to it is challenging. That’s where Scott comes in. Scott has been a fantastic personal trainer. He’s challenged and motivated me with ever changing workouts, including kettle bells, Bulgarian bag and slide board work, kickboxing, and mobility training. I also appreciate Scott’s martial arts background, which he routinely incorporates into my workouts. And, although Scott is already very knowledgeable about fitness, he continues to learn and apply new knowledge into my exercise routines. For example, over the past year, we’ve added Functional Range Conditioning days to help improve my mobility and movement – which has been so important, particularly as I’ve been spending more time behind a desk while working remotely. And finally, since Scott is able to effectively train me virtually, I never have to miss a workout when I’m traveling. Thanks, Scott for helping me get mobile, strong, healthy, and free!”

“When I reached out to Self Liberation Strength, I wanted to address my general feeling of weakness, my low body weight, the tightness in my hips and shoulders, and my low stamina/endurance. I was feeling pretty miserable and hopeless, like I wasn’t sure how to crawl out from the hole I had found myself in fitness-wise. Scott showed me the areas where I had the least range of motion and set me on a bi-weekly routine to address my stiffness as well as build back strength and mass. I was able to gain nearly 10lbs in the 3 months I trained at SLS. My hip and shoulder mobility improved and a lot of my daily pain was diminished. I feel stronger, more confident, and more capable now than I did before coming into SLS. Scott is very easy to work with as a trainer. He is knowledgeable about many different fitness systems and able to draw on that knowledge to create programs to address specific needs. I would encourage anyone to train at SLS.”
